SheetAI

How to Set Up Your API Key

SheetAI needs an API key to communicate with AI providers. You can use your own key from OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, xAI Grok, or DeepSeek.

Before you start

Make sure you have SheetAI installed. If not, install it first. You also need an API key β€” if you don't have one yet, see how to create an API key.

Steps to set up your API key

  1. 1

    Open Google Sheets

Open an existing spreadsheet or create a new one.

  2. 2

    Launch SheetAI

Go to Extensions β†’ SheetAI App β†’ Launch sidebar.

  3. 3

    Open Settings

In the SheetAI sidebar, click on the Settings or gear icon.

  4. 4

    Select your AI provider

Choose the provider you want to use: OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, xAI Grok, or DeepSeek.

  5. 5

    Paste your API key

Paste the API key you generated from your provider's dashboard.

  6. 6

    Save

Click Save. Your API key is stored securely in your Google account and is never sent to SheetAI servers.

  7. 7

    Test it

Try a formula like =SHEETAI("hello") in any cell to confirm it works.

Is my API key secure?

Yes. Your API key is stored in a secure container within your Google account. It is never visible to anyone, including SheetAI servers. The key is only used to make direct API calls from your Google Sheets session.

Who can use SheetAI functions in my spreadsheet?

All editors of the document can use SheetAI functions, but the API usage is charged to the API key of the spreadsheet's owner/creator.
